"X-Men: First Class" Brings Young Spin to Classic Franchise

The Sci-Fi Movie Page reports that Marvel Comics’ X-Men franchise will be bringing a spin-off to theaters on June 3, 2011. Entitled X-Men: First Class, the film will be produced by Bryan Singer (X-Men, X2), directed by Matthew Vaughn (Kick-Ass, Stardust), and written by Zak Penn (X-Men: The Last Stand).
The concept is to take a closer look at the larger X-Men family of characters and highlight the relatively unknown teenaged heroes who don’t often get a chance to stand in the spotlight. It sounds like it could either be very cheesy (not necessarily a bad thing) or it could tell a fascinating coming of age story. With talent like Vaughn, Singer, and Penn on board, the chances are good that X-Men: First Class will very much fall into line with that brand of superhero storytelling.
