We’ll have to be satisfied with the mutant leader’s back, at least until tomorrow, when 20th Century Fox will release the official trailer for the film on its Facebook Page.
X-MEN: FIRST CLASS, directed by Matthew Vaughn (KICK-ASS) is set for release June 3rd.
At the Saturn Awards this year, producer Lauren Shuler Donner (X-MEN) discussed X-MEN: FIRST CLASS.
Some of her comments included thoughts on casting:
“There are a lot of factors to consider. There are two mostly. One is the best actor possible because it is a movie. Then the best actor that approximates everybody’s image of these characters.”
Donner also revealed that the Magneto film is likely to never be made, as much of his backstory used in the David S. Goyer script will be told instead in FIRST CLASS.
Despite the mediocre success of X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE, she confirmed that the Wolverine sequel, to cover the Japanese saga comic book mini-series will go foward.
Laura Schuler Donner also said that a Deadpool movie is still in the cards, and that Ryan Reynolds is still involved with the planned film:
” You know, Ryan is so committed to being Deadpool. He is Wade Wilson. Well, no, he’s Deadpool. He is so committed to it that he worked with the writers on the script. Even though he’s doing GREEN LANTERN, he’s stayed involved in that project. I’m hoping we’ll get it off the ground next year.”
Magneto has been found! After much speculation, actor Michael Fassbender (INGLOURIOUS BASTARDS, JONAH HEX) is slated to play the super squad’s arch-nemesis in the upcoming X-MEN: FIRST CLASS. The film examines the early life of Charles Xavier and Erik Lensherr, the two friends who would eventually grow to become Professor X and Magneto respectively. Fassbender joins a cast that includes James McAvoy as Charles Xavier and Benjamin Walker as Hank “The Beast” McCoy. Principal photography is set to begin in London this August with a theatrical release date of June 2011.
Entertainment Weekly reports that 20th Century Fox is in talks with Michael Fassbender (EDEN LAKE) to play Erik Lensherr, the future Magneto, in X-MEN: FIRST CLASS.
If all goes well Fassbener, also in INGOLRIOUS BASTERDS and today’s DC Comics-derived film JONAH HEX, will join James McAvoy as young Charles Xavier, who begin as friends before fate will cast them as enemies.
Production is scheduled to begin in England this summer, under director Matthew Vaughn (KICK-ASS).
The article says Michael Fassbender was also under consideration to play the as-yet-unknown villian in Sony/Columbia’s reboot of SPIDER-MAN.
X-MEN: FIRST CLASS is due in theaters June 3rd, 2011.
