Skyler_SamuelsAccording to Alloy Entertainment’s pilot for ABC Family, NINE LIVES, has found its female lead. (No, it’s not Morris the Cat.)
Skyler Samuels (THE GATES) will play the role of  Chloe King, a teenager with enhanced cat-like abilities of  hearing, night vision, speed, agility, the ability to grow claws at will, and presumably has … Nine Lives.
Based on a series of Young Adult novels, The Nine Lives of Chloe King by Ceilia Thomson (Tracy Lynn), 16 year-old San Franciscan Chloe uses up her first life by falling off a skyscraper in The Fallen, the first book in the series. She wakes from what she assumes was her death to discover her new powers, and soon also learns someone is stalking her with murderous intent.
The pilot was written and will be executive produced by Dan Berendsen (SABRINA,  THE TEENAAGE WITCH), along with Alloy Entertainment’s Leslie Morgenstein and Gina Girolamo.
Sounds a little like the movie versions of DC’s Cat Woman, with beefed-up powers.

HULK To Smash TVs Again?

Hulk_INCU_WAccording to The Hollywood Reporter, Marvel Entertainment  and ABC are seriously developing a new TV version of THE INCREDIBLE HULK, despite the character already being committed to THE AVENGERS.
Marvel Television, headed on the creative side by Jeph Loeb, is also said to be working on  a TV adaptation of  Cloak and Dagger,  possibly for ABC Family. ABC and ABC Family are both owned by Disney, which now owns Marvel.
Cloak-and-Dagger-marvel-comicsApparently, back in May, Marvel Television also pitched the ideas of a number of Marvel properties as potential series including:
HEROES FOR HIRE (Luke Cage. IRON FIST is reportedly in development as a feature film.)
KA-ZAR (Marvel’s long-standing Tarzan riff, now to solve crimes in today’s urban jungle, aided by his sabre-toothed tiger pal… No, really.)
THE ETERNALS (Secret superheroes among us.)
THE PUNISHER (He’d have to go cable or become non-lethal, I’d guess.)
… and a number of female detective characters involved with superhumans in one way or another.
Thor_TVTHE INCREDIBLE HULK was a succesful series for CBS  from 1978-82, starring Bill Bixby and Lou Ferrigno. Attempts to use the character in later TV movies to launch THOR and DAREDEVIL series for ABC didn’t pan out.

Jeph Loeb On Marvel TV Plans

Avengers_EMHeroesNewsarama interviewed newly appointed Marvel Television head Jeph Loeb about the new division’s plans.
The writer/producer on shows such as HEROES explained that Marvel plans to continue to explore it Direct-To-DVD animated features, and aminmated series for television, including AVENGERS: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes coming to Disney XD (formerly Toon Disney or Jetix in some areas) this fall, and the already in-development ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN.
He wants to see Marvel Animation improve the quality of its productions to the level of their print and film divisions, particularly now that they are part of Disney.

“And then there’s a brand new division that we’ll do with live action, where we’re working in partnership with ABC and ABC Family to find the right properties, the right characters and develop them.
To start, we will be exploring the one-hour drama field similar to the shows that I mentioned that I’ve worked on, like SMALLVILLE and LOST.
…The real key for us is to find the right property for the right network with the right studio, and make sure we’ve got the right creator-showrunner in order to bring that vision to the screen.
We are planning on doing this very cautiously, very carefully and very selectively — it’s worked very well for the feature department, and that’s the model that we’ll be looking at.”
