Columbus to Discover SUPERMAN?

SUPER_KIRK_CSo far merely a rumor, but picking up speed: Warner Brothers has offered the job to direct the next SUPERMAN movie to Chris Columbus (HARRY POTTER films).
So reports the Superman Homepage, quoting an undisclosed studio source.
When last I heard, Jonathan Nolan (THE DARK KNIGHT), who was said to be co-writing the script with David S. Goyer (BATMAN BEGINS), was the front-runner for the job.
The article claims that David Goyer also wanted the director’s chair for what producer Christopher Nolan has said was Goyer’s great idea to do Superman in a modern context.
Certainly Chris Columbus has a good understanding of effects work and flying action, not sure how well he would suit the scripts supposedly more realistic tone.
