Their three short subjects, financed for British television, were all nominated for Oscars in the short subject category, and two of them won, but their feature film debut WALLACE AND GROMIT IN THE CURSE OF THE WERE-RABBIT failed to live up to the brilliance of their smaller adventures. Now creator Nick Park says that his stop-motion “Plasticene Pals” will return to television in another half-hour episode, to be filmed as a special for BBC1.
Filming will begin in January on “Trouble at Mill,” which will follow in the tradition of previous Wallace and Gromit adventures, “The Wrong Trousers” and “A Close Shave” by placing the comic duo in the middle of a mystery-suspense plot: the pair open a baking business but discover that previous bakers have mysteriously disappeared. (Interesting trivia: the phrase “trouble at mill” features in the famous Monty Python sketch about the Spanish Inquisition – a deliberate reference or just a coincidence?)
