New Writer on 'Logan's Run'

Logans_RunTV_2According to The Hollywood Reporter, Alex Garland (28 DAYS LATER) is in talks to write a new screenplay to the LOGAN’S RUN update that Warner Brothers Pictures still seems keen to make, after a long time in development with a number of writers and potential directors.
The article suggests that the studio and producers Joel Silver (THE MATRIX) and Akiva Goldsman (BATMAN FOREVER) want the story to be truer to William F. Nolan and George Clayton Johnson’s 1967 novel Logan’s Run.
The 1976 film and 1977 -78 TV series from MGM concentrated on the more simplisitic “Fugitive” chase aspects of the dysutopian future world.

'Green Lantern 2' and 'The Flash' Deals

According to The Hollywood Reporter Warner Brothers has hired Greg Berlanti (NO ORDINARY FAMILY), Michael Green and Marc Guggenheim to write screen treatments for GREEN LANTERN 2 and THE FLASH.
The first GREEN LANTERN is still shooting under directer Martin Campbell in New Orleans, but the studio is apparently excited enough to being developing a sequel.
The trio had written a screenplay for the film currently in production, but Campbell brought in Michael Goldenberg (HARRY POTTER AND THE ORDER OF THE PHOENIX) to alter the script to his liking.
The article states Berlanti & Co. will write storylines for both films and that they’ll be commissioned to write a full screenplay for one or the other, depending on reactions.
THE FLASH film is one that writer/DC Entertainment executive Geoff Johns is very interested in, and the storyline will reportedly be inspired by his comic book work, featuring the silver age Barry Allen version of the character.

Western Godzilla Reboot in the Works

The 1998 American version of Gojira
The 1998 American version of Gojira

Get ready to scrub your brains free of the god-awful 1998 remake of GORJIRA by Roland Emmerich (2012, INDEPENDENCE DAY), because a deal has just been struck to get a new remake of the Japanese classic in production. According to Bloody Disgusting both Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures are teaming up to bring a reboot to our screens in the near future, just recently having closed a deal with Japanese rights-holders, Toho.

Godzilla is one of the world’s most powerful pop culture icons, and we at Legendary are thrilled to be able to create a modern epic based on this long-loved Toho franchise,

Thomas Tull, CEO of Legendary Pictures tells The Hollywood Reporter,

Our plans are to produce the Godzilla that we, as fans, would want to see. We intend to do justice to those essential elements that have allowed this character to remain as pop culturally relevant for as long as it has.

A big statement to live up to indeed, especially given American film-makers track record when dealing with the horror icon, but one that sounds promising. No director or writers have been attached to the project thus far but it seems unlikely that Emmerich will be returning, given his lack of enthusiasm for a GODZILLA sequel in the past. It does, given its popularity at the moment, seem highly likely that the film will be shot in 3D, the IMAX format, or both.
Both studios are aiming to get their GODZILLA reboot out by 2012. What do you think, is another American remake of GORJIRA worth the hassle?

So Much For a "Final Destination"

That’s right folks, following the box office success of Warner Bros.’ THE FINAL DESTINATION (released last year in 3D) the studio has decided to back yet another sequel to the franchise.
Comingsoon.net has revealed that while at ShoWest in Las Vegas Warner Bros. confirmed that a fifth sequel will be coming to cinema screens soon. THE FINAL DESTINATION managed to gross only $66 million domestically but made $180 million worldwide so another sequel should come as no surprise.
The first film in the series was a unique, creative and fun slasher-movie-with-a-twist but they seem to be getting worse with every sequel. Do we really need another FINAL DESTINATION movie? Besides, what are they even going to call the thing?
