The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader – December 10

Twentieth Century Fox Film Corporation’s Fox 2000 Pictures and Walden Media team up to release the third NARNIA movie through the Fox-Walden label. THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA: THE LION, THE WITCH & THE WARDROBE was a certified blockbuster, despite being rather too lightweight. The first sequel, THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA: PRINCE CASPIAN, was considerably better but saw a considerable drop-off in ticket sales; though not nearly enough to justify the erroneous perception of box office failure, it did not bode well for the future of the franchise, so Walt Disney Pictures, which had co-produced the first two films with Walden Media, dropped out, and Fox stepped in.

Gotta love a film that features a dragon and a cute mouse.

Leaving nothing to chance, the studio that released AVATAR, opted to go the 3-D route for THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA: THE VOYAGE OF THE DAWN TREADER. Director Andrew Adamson is gone, replaced by Michael Apted, who seems to be the go-to guy when Hollywood wants to take genre material and make it more dramatically serious (e.g., THE WORLD IS NOT ENOUGH). In any case, once again, the Pevensie children travel to the magical land of Narnia, where they help out old comrades Prince Caspian and Aslan. The screenplay by Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely and Michael Petroni, based on the novel by C.S. Lewis. The cast includes Georgie Henley as Lucy Pevensie, Skandar Keynes as Edmund Pevensie, Ben Barnes as Prince Caspian, Will Poulter as Eustace Scrubb, Tilda Swinton as the White Witch, Anna Popplewell as Susan Pevensie, Liam Neeson as Aslan, and Simon Pegg as Reepicheep.
