On September 14, Walt Disney Pictures will release a 25th anniversary Special Edition DVD of THE BLACK CAULDRON, the 1985 animated adventure that saw the company trying to stretch beyond its family audience and appeal to viewers enthralled by PG fantasy films. Based on L Chronicles of Prydain by Lloyd Alexander, the 80-minute feature tells the story of an apprentice pig keeper whose dreams of becoming a knight in shining armor lead him on a quest to prevent a magical Black Cauldron from falling into the hands of the evil Horned King .
Presented with a new digital transfer (1.78 aspect ratio for widescreen monitors) and Digital 5.1 Surround Sound, THE BLACK CAULDRON: 25TH ANNIVERSARY SPECIAL EDITION will include bonus material from the previous DVD release, plus new features:
- NEW: The Witches’ Challenge Game: In order to defeat the dark powers of the Horned King, players must gain possession the magical sword. from the Witches of Morva by solving their riddles.
- NEW: A previously deleted scene, in which Taran, Fflewddur Fflam, Gurgi and Princess Eilonwy travel into the depths of the Earth and meet the Fairfolk.
- Still Frame Gallery: a compilation of behind-the-scenes artwork and photos.
- Quest For the Black Cauldron: a trivia game in which players compete against the evil Horned King in a race to reach the Black Cauldron first.
- TRICK OR TREAT: a Classic Donald Duck cartoon from 1952.
DVD Subtitles: English, Spanish, French. The film is rated PG. Suggested retail price is $19.99.
