Last year’s THE FINAL DESTINATION was not so final after all. New Line Cinema has hired Steven Quale, who directed second unit for James Cameron’s AVATAR (2009), to direct FINAL DESTINATION 5, from a script by Eric Heisserer. Craig Perry will produce the iflm, which is scheduled to start shooting on September 13 in Vancouver.
THE FINAL DESTINATION confounded expectations by reversing the franchise’s failing fortunes, racking up over $180-million worldwide, at least in part due to the innovation of depicting the de rigueur deaths in glorious 3D. The hiring of Quale was at least in part due to his experience with the technique, thanks to his work on the Cameron film.
