Please Wipe Your Feet Before Entering the Detention Unit: Milla Jovovich winds up in the belly of a beastly corporation in RESIDENT EVIL: RETRIBUTION.

People have condemned the RESIDENT EVIL series, claiming it’s nothing more than a loose assemblage of action sequences wherein Milla Jovovich’s agile zombie-fighter Alice runs and shoots guns. Not satisfied with that, writer/director Paul W.S. Anderson has confounded expectations with RESIDENT EVIL: RETRIBUTION: He has Alice shoot guns, then run. Cinefantastique Online’s Steve Biodrowski and Dan Persons have differing opinions about whether Anderson has upped his game in this latest installment of the 3D-enhanced franchise, and weigh whether all the pyrotechnics amount to a witty deconstruction of the standard video game worldview, or just become a tiring string of — admittedly beautifully mounted and choreographed — flash-n-bang.
Then, Steve gives his quick observations on the 3D re-release of FINDING NEMO, and Dan brings you up-to-date on what’s coming to theaters next week.

Resident Evil: Retribution Trailer #2

Second trailer from RESIDENT EVIL: RETRIBUTION. With Milla Jovavich, Michelle Rodriguez, Kevin Durand, Sienna Guillory, Oded Fehr, Bingbing Li. Written and directed by Paul W. S. Anderson, based on the popular videogame franchise.

Resident Evil: Retribution opens September 14

Screen Gems releases the fifth installment in the zombie apocalypse franchise, produced by Constantin Films and Davids Films/Impact Pictures. This first trailer, an amusing parody of commercials plugging the globalization aspects of information technology, suggests that writer-director Paul W. S. Anderson has upped the ante, shooting for something on the epic scale of James Cameron’s AVATAR. In fact, even if you are not a fan of the previous films inspired by the popular shoot-em-up video game, you may find yourself feeling a twinge of anticipation. Milla Jovavich returns as Alice. Also in the cast: Michelle Rodriguez, Kevin Durand, Sienna Guillory, Eded Fehr, Bingbing Li.
Release date: September 14, 2012.
