According to The Hollywood Reporter, Juan Carlos Fresnadillo (28 WEEKS LATER), has been choosen to direct Relativity Media’s remake/reboot of THE CROW.
Producers Edward R. Pressman, Jeff Most, Relativity’s Media’s Ryan Kavanaugh and Apaches Entertainment’s Enrique Lopez Lavigne and Belen Atienza are behind the new version of the independent comic book character created by James O’Barr.
The first film version from Miramax came in 1994, directed by Alex Proyas (DARK CITY) and written by David J. Schow and John Shirely. The tragic death of star Brandon Lee from a prop plastic bullet fired from blank cartridge added to the film’s dark appeal, to many.
Three film sequels and the  TV series THE CROW: STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN (starring Mark Dacascos) , took the franchise further.
Steven Norrtington (BLADE, LEAGUE OF EXTRAORDINARY GENTLEMEN) was invovled in a previous attempt to relaunch the character, his version would not have used the Eric Draven character.
Writer/Musician Nick Cave (THE PROPOSITION, 2005) wrote the latest screenplay, though it’s expected Juan Carlos Fresnadillo will bring someone on to tailor the script to his tastes.
