Sense of Wonder: Classic Horror for Halloween

With Halloween less than a week away, we thought we would toss up some more classic horror for your perusal. Unfortunately, for five years now, Halloween has become synomyous in the horror movie world with the release of a new SAW film – even though it is hard to imagine a horror franchise that has less to do with the holiday. Halloween is a time for spooks and spectres, black cats and witches, ghosts and goblins. It is a time when the dead rise from their graves, not when madmen are unleashed to slash victims. (Desptie decades or urban legends, the holiday is not marked by a rise in crime.) With that in mind we give you reviews of two Hammer horror classics, CURSE OF THE WEREWOLF and THE DEVIL RIDES OUT, plus an interview with George Romero (DIARY OF THE DEAD), who discusses his approach to writing horror screenplays.
