Red State on screen

Kevin Smith is taking his independently shot horror film around the country one city at a time, rather like a concert tour (for example, schedule for the Wiltern Theatre in Los Angeles shows his name, not the film title). The professed strategy is to raise money for a nationwide release, with the official RED STATE website (www.coopersdell.com) encouraging fans to purchase merchandise in hope of raising the $2.5-million that it would cost to strike 1,000 prints of the film.
You gotta give Smith credit for his novel approach, whether you think it’s a pipe dream or a publicity stunt.  As for the film itself, presumably we can all guess the content , judging by the title (hint: fundamentalism gone wild) . Sundance reviews of RED STATE were somewhat reserved, suggesting that there was a good movie in there somewhere, waiting for a little editing to turn the shiny lump into a gem. Michael Parks, Melissa Leo, and John Goodman head the cast.
