Obituary: Charles Pierce, director of Bogey Creek

Variety reports that Charles Pierce, the low-budget indie director of LEGEND OF BOGEY CREEK, died of natural causes on March 5, at the age of 71. His other credits include BOGEY CREEK II, THE KILLER BEES, and THE TOWN THAT DREADED SUNDOWN.
Daniel Myrick, one of the director’s of THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT, cited the original BOGEY CREEK as an influence:

“We just wanted to make a movie that tapped into the primal fear generated by the fact-or-fiction format, like ‘Legend of Boggy Creek.’ That was one of my favorites; it freaked me out when I was a little kid.”
