Laserblast: Pirates ahoy!

The third – and hopefully last – chapter in the PIRATES film trilogy, PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: AT WORLD’S END, reaches video stores this week. There is a Two-Disc Collector’s Edition, a Widescreen Edition, and a Blu-ray Disc. (If only there were a “High-Quality Edition”!) Both DVDs offers 2.35 widescreen transfer with Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound; both DVDs also contain the a blooper reel as a bonus feature. Of course, the two-disc version is loaded with lots of other extra features:

  • Keith and the Captain: On Set with Johnny and the Rock Legend
  • Anatomy of a Scene: The Maelstrom
  • The tale of Many Jacks
  • The World of Chow Yun-Fat
  • The Pirate Maestro: The Music of Hans Zimmer
  • Hoist the Colours
  • Inside the Brethren Court
  • Deleted Scenes

There are also several Easter Eggs but no audio commentary.
The rest of this week’s home video releases includes an Unrated Extended Cut of BATTLESTAR GALACTICA: RAZOR, a Blu-ray disc of INDEPENDENCE DAY, a new colorized version of Ray Harryhausen’s stop-motion monsterfest 20 MILLION MILES TO EARTH, a Decades Collection DVD/CD release of MAD MAX, and a DVD release of THE LAST MAN ON EARTH. The later follows on the hells of THE OMEGA MAN, which came out last week, both films attempting to cash in on the upcoming release of I AM LEGEND, which is based on the same source novel by Richard Matheson.
