Laserblast: DVD & Blu-ray Releases for August 11

17 Again, The Ninth Gate, Alien Trespass lead this week’s horror, fantasy, and science fiction home video releases

Not much new and exciting for horror, fantasy, and science fiction fans to enjoy on home video this week. The theatrical releases making their debut on disc consist of 17 AGAIN and ALIEN TRESPASS, while Roman Polanski’s satanic thriller THE NINTH GATE re-emerges, this time on Blu-ray disc.
17 AGAIN is available on DVD and as part of a Blu-ray and DVD combo pack, which also includes a digital copy of the film. Blu-ray bonus features inclue a a 12-minute featurette (“Zac Goes Back”), a 3-minute retrospective (“Going Back to 17”), a trivia track, outtakes, a deleted scene of Zac’s dance flashback, 13 additional scenes, and the disc is Warner BD-LIVE Enabled.
ALIEN TRESPASS is also availabe on a DVD and on a Blu-ray disc. Bonus features consist of a making-of featurette, behind-the-scenes footage, and a trailer.
THE NINTH GATE has previously been released on DVD twice. The new Blu-ray disc ports over the bonus features (including audio commentary from director Roman Polansk) from these older discs (which you can read about here) but offers a new 1080p high-definition transfer that should be a wonder to behold.
Other than that, the week’s offerings are a grab bab of forgotten direct-to-video and cult titles: THE LAST RESORT on DVD (let me guess: tourists run afoul of the locals); a Blu-ray release of REPLICANT (not a sequel to BLADE RUNNER but an action flick with Jean-Claude Van Damme); and a “Wicked Women” DVD box set with NIGHTMARES COME AT NIGHT, FLESH FOR THE BEAST, and WEREWOLF WOMAN.
