Laserblast: Blade Runner

Well, two-and-a-half decades after the theatrical release of BLADE RUNNER, a “Final Cut” of the film reaches home video stores today. Not only that; the new version has been packaged with previous cuts of the movie, to create an awesome collection worthy of residing on any fan’s shelves. There is a Two-Disc Special Edition, a Four-Disc Collector’s Edition, a Five-Disc Complete Collector’s Edition on Blu-ray disc, a Five-Disc Complete Collector’s Edition on HD DVD, and three different “Ultimate Collector’s Editions”: on DVD, HD DVD, and Blu-ray. Bonus features include “Dangerous Days,” an in-depth documentary about the making of the film.
BLADE RUNNER is only one of many big home video releases in the week before Christmas. Other titles reaching stores today include THE SIMPSONS MOVIE, STARDUST, UNDERDOG, TERMINATOR 3- RISE OF THE MACHINES on Blu-ray, HATCHET (the unrated DVD is reviewed here), an Ultimate Edition DVD of Sam Raimi’s debut horror hit THE EVIL DEAD, and last and certainly least, Rob Zombie’s unnecessary remake of HALLOWEEN, which arrives in an Unrated Director’s Cut and as a Two-Disc Special Edition.
