Ka-Boom: February 4-10 (exclusive)

kaboom-poster_280x415The new film from writer-director Gregg Araki, which combines the filmmakers usual tropes with science fiction and fantasy elements, opens in exclusive engagements in New York and Los Angeles, including a one-week run at Landmark’s Nuart Theatre (11272 Santa Monica Boulevard, West Los Angeles, CA), at which Araki and the cast will appear on Friday and Saturday.
From the official IFC website:

Kaboom is a wild, witty, sex-drenched horror-comedy thriller, the latest film from iconoclastic independent filmmaker Gregg Araki (The Doom Generation, Nowhere, Mysterious Skin). Featuring a gorgeous young cast, this hyper-stylized “Twin Peaks” for the Coachella Generation tells the story of Smith (Thomas Dekker), an ambisexual 18-year-old college freshman who stumbles upon a monstrous conspiracy in a seemingly idyllic Southern California seaside town. Smith’s everyday life in the dorms—hanging out with his arty, sarcastic best friend Stella (Haley Bennett), hooking up with a beautiful free spirit named London (Juno Temple), lusting for his gorgeous but dim surfer roommate Thor (Chris Zylka)—all gets turned upside-down after one fateful, terrifying night. Kaboom shares key touchstones of Araki’s early films, including carefully framed Pop Art-like shots, absurd Valley-inflected dialogue, elements of campy gore and Araki’s troupe of arrestingly sexy guys and girls. With his sophisticated synthesis of various experiments in tone and cinematography, Araki has reached a new level of artistic maturity.

Cast: Thomas Dekker, Haley Bennett, Chris Zylka, Roxane Mesquida, Juno Temple.
