The lunatics have taken over the Gotham, and fans of the Dark Knight are all asking, “Why didn’t this happen sooner?” Their patience has been paid off in BATMAN: ARKHAM CITY, a new video game that takes the mayhem first encountered in BATMAN: ARKHAM ASYLUM and spreads it out into Gotham City proper, to considerable praise (and probably some orgasmic moans) from gameplayers everywhere. We got a few minutes with a representative from game designer Rocksteady Studios to find out what motivated the new game’s broader canvas, and explore what happens when chaos reigns in the Caped Crusader’s home turf (as if it doesn’t always).
Cinefantastique hit the floor of New York Comic Con 2011 and discovered… people. Lots ‘n’ lots of people. NYCC sold out for the entire weekend, and the upshot was that even the isolated reaches of the show floor became navigational nightmares at certain points during the day. Woe betide the mortal wandering Artists Alley who had a sudden hankering for a bagful of Japanese fruit chews. The trip from one end of the show to the other took slightly longer than traversing the Silk Road.
Nevertheless, in the course of producing his scheduled interviews, Dan Persons had time to wander the floor and snap up a few random encounters and events with his handy pocket camcorder. Come join him to discover 3D printers, pickled punks, Romanian comics, redemption for the Black Eyed Peas, and much, much more, including special guest appearances by cartoonist Bill Plympton and Troma’s own Lloyd Kaufman. Check out a larger version of the video below, or watch it on YouTube.
Based on the RED FACTION “first-person shooter” series of video games by THQ and Volition, RED FACTION: ORIGINS has made the jump to live action as a two hour film, as a potential back-door pilot for a TV series.
“Twenty-five years have passed since Alec Mason led the Martian Colonies to freedom…and ten years since vengeful enemies killed his wife, kidnapped his daughter Lyra, and left a broken hero in their wake. Jake Mason, Alec’s last surviving son and a ranger in the Red Faction Militia, had never abandoned hope that somewhere in the raw outlands of Mars, his sister was still alive. Now, just as a powerful new enemy swarms across the planet, he’s found her, only to learn that his long lost sister is one of them…a cold-blooded soldier sworn to destroy the Red Faction and conquer the planet in the name of a madman. Jake must now battle the relentless regime and somehow reunite a family torn apart by war.”
Stars Brian J. Smith (STARGATE: UNIVERSE), Robert Patrick (TERMINATOR 2), Kate Vernon (BATTLESTAR GALACTICA and Gareth David-Lloyd (TORCHWOOD).
Directed by Michael Nankin (ROAR), written by Andrew Kreisberg from a story by Paul DeMao.
A production of Universal Media Studios and UFO Films.
Premieres this Saturday, June 4th at 9:00 Pm ET/PT on SyFy.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the new owners of the TOMB RAIDER video game film rights may be planning to do an origin film of the Lara Croft character.
The two TOMB RAIDER feature films starred Angelina Jolie as the mature version of the female Indiana Jones-type archeologist-adventurer.
However, new rights holder GK Films, headed by Graham King (THE TOURIST), apparently wants to “create daring new adventures for the young and dynamic Lara Croft.”
Original game delveloper Eidos, now part of the Square Enix group, also seems intents on making a new game that explores Corft’s origins, via its active game company Crystal Dynamics.
Here’s the trailer to BLOODRAYNE: THE THIRD REICH, coming from that that director fans seem to love to hate, Uwe Boll.
It’s 1943 and the German army has spread its black tentacles across the European continent, mercilessly cutting a swath of destruction and carnage.
The Commandant’s soldiers, led by his trusted Lieutenant, tighten their iron grip on a small eastern town and facilitate the movement of transport trains to the nearby death camps. Meanwhile, a psychotic Doctor performs grisly experiments on people in the camps—and has a strange affinity for cutting open vampires, when he can get his hands on one.
And where there are vampires, there’s Rayne!
Now Rayne faces her greatest foe, a growing army of undead soldiers led by the Commandant. She and the Resistance must defeat the Commandant and his vampire troops before they manage to get back to Berlin, where they intend to make Hitler immortal.
Starring Natassia Malthe (BLOODRAYNE: DELIVERANCE). Michael Pare (STARHUNTER), Clint Howard (FROM THE EARTH TO THE MOON), and Brendan Fletcher (FREDDY VS. JASON).
Written by former FX artist Michael Nachoff, based on the Terminal Reality/Majesco video game.
I didn’t know there was a BLOODRAYNE 2 — that one went direct to video, it seems. Trailer via Twitchfilm, poster via Dread Central
