Box Office: "Prom" goes to head of class

PROM NIGHT  went to the head of the nation’s box office this weekend. The remake of the ’80s slasher film made its debut with $22.7-million, easily outdistancing the weekend’s other debut, STREET KINGS, which opened with $12-million.
As for holdover sci-fi, fantasy, and horror films in the Top Ten…
NIM’S ISLAND slipped from second to fourth place in its sophomore session, earning $9-million for a two-week total of $25.28-million.
HORTON HEARS A WHO had a hearing loss of two decibels, from #4 to #6. The computerized comedy added $6-million to its five-week gross of $139.63-million.
THE RUINS crumbled from #5 to #8, with $3.25-million. After two weeks, the total stands at a meagre $13.41-million.
Finally, 10,000 B.C. dropped out of the Top Ten, slipping from tenth to twelfth place. With $1.5-million in weekend ticket sales, the box office crept up to $91.79-million.
