With no new sci-fi, fantasy, or horror films opening this weekend, the genre was pretty much a no-show at the box office, with WHY DID I GET MARRIED, THE GAME PLAN, and MICHAEL CLAYTON taking the top spots.
The highest ranked horror title was RESIDENT EVIL: EXTINCTION, which came in at #9 (down from #4) with $2.65-million. That gave the zombie action-flick a four-week total of $48.07-million total earned in North American theatres.
The only other genre title in the Top Ten was THE SEEKER, which dropped from fifth to tenth place in its second weekend of release. The film earned only $2.15-million, for a meagre two-week total of $7.10-million.
Dropping out of the Top Ten was GOOD LUCK CHUCK, which charmed its way to #11 (down from #6) in its fourth weekend of release. The romantic comedy with a fantasy premise earned another $2.03-million, raising its total to $32.76-million.
