MONSTERS Releases First Preview Trailer

Although there is currently no theatrical release date set, buzz has been building amongst followers of the festival circuits of the new monster movie titled – appropriately – MONSTERS. This film marks the directorial debut of writer/director Gareth Edwards, whose previous experience in the visual effects field seems to serve him well in this film.
Not too much is known about the plot, but it seems that the film is heavily focused on character rather than action and thrills, judging from this short small synopsis:

Six years after Earth has suffered an alien invasion a cynical journalist agrees to escort a shaken American tourist through an infected zone in Mexico to the safety of the US border.

Not much is to be gleaned from that short sentence. We shall see, however, when the film comes out.

Joss Whedon To Direct THE AVENGERS

joss_whedonFanboys & fangirls rejoice – fresh from Comic Con comes the announcement that Joss Whedon (BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER, FIREFLY, DOLLHOUSE) will be directing Marvel’s upcoming THE AVENGERS movie. In terms of his approach to the multi-superhero flick, he had this to say:

I’m still writing the outline. I am at the stage where I am reworking and reworking. What I love about this is that there is no way that these people should be in the same room together, let alone the same team. And that, to me, is the definition of family.

He has a lot of work and great expectations ahead of him. Here is to hoping the outline turns into something great!

New Photos of Nicolas Cage In DRIVE ANGRY

When one thinks of angry acting, usually Nic Cage is at the top of the list. There are few movies of his where fists aren’t flying and words aren’t being shouted into the face of an unsuspecting person – THE WICKER MAN being the best example of this. So how appropriate is it that he is in a movie called DRIVE ANGRY? It was practically MADE for him!
The official plot summary is as follows:

DRIVE ANGRY stars Nicolas Cage as Milton, a hardened felon who has broken out of hell for one last chance at redemption. Intent on stopping a vicious cult who murdered his daughter, he has three days to stop them before they sacrifice her baby beneath a full moon.
He’s joined by Piper (Amber Heard) – a young, sexy waitress who liberates her ex-boyfriend’s cherry-red muscle car in order to help Milton. Now, the two of them are hot on the trail of the deadly leader of the cult, Jonah King (Billy Burke), who believes it is his destiny to use the baby to unleash hell on earth.
But the bloodthirsty cult is the least of Milton’s problems. The police are after him too. And worse, an enigmatic killer known only as “The Accountant” – who has been sent by the Devil to retrieve Milton and deliver him back to hell. With wicked cunning and hypnotic savagery, the Accountant will relentlessly pursue Milton at high speed across the country until his mission is accomplished.
Fueled by high octane and pure rage, Milton must use his anger to go beyond all human limits to avenge his daughter’s murder, before his last chance at redemption is revoked.

But we won’t leave you with just words. Check out the gallery of images just released and try and tell us they don’t whet your appetite for some angry Cage action! DRIVE ANGRY is set to be released February 11th, 2011

Robot Noir From The UK In REIGN OF DEATH

Love your Sci-Fi but short on time? Check out the short film REIGN OF DEATH! Directed by Matt Savage (Concept Designer on KICK ASS & X-MEN: FIRST CLASS) and starring Noel Clarke (DOCTOR WHO), REIGN is classic detective noir set in a dystopian future. The movie has been making it’s way around the UK Festival circuit and has been picking up a lot of positive buzz. While the film speaks for itself, in a much larger sense it shows that you don’t need a huge budget to make a fun and memorable film.

Brad Pitt Takes On The Zombie Horde In WORLD WAR Z

brad-pitt-portraitWhen the zombie apocalypse happens, isn’t it comforting to know that at least SOME pretty people will survive? Hollywood hopes you think so as it was announced that Brad Pitt would be starring in the upcoming zombie war retrospective WORLD WAR Z. Based on the book of the same name by Max Brooks, WORLD WAR Z tells the unique story of the human fight for survival against the infected – from initial outbreak to humanity’s ultimate victory – by way of oral interviews.
J. Michael Straczynski will be adapting the book into a screenplay and, while nothing is known for sure, rumor has it that he has added a journalist character to the storyline – potentially the Brad Pitt role – that will facilitate the book’s original interview format.
The film was optioned by Pitt’s Plan B productions 3 years ago and has been in development ever since. Plan B has also picked up the rights to Max Brooks’ other books THE ZOMBIE SURVIVAL GUIDE and THE ZOMBIE SURVIVAL GUIDE: RECORDED ATTACKS. Whether these will be incorporated into the WWZ film or will be stand-alones has yet to be seen.
